If you just can’t wait for the trick-or-treating to begin, check out Farmington’s first Pumpkin Palooza Family Fun Festival for an early start on Halloween. The family friendly event will take place two days before Halloween, beginning at 3 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Legacy Events Center, 151 S. 1100 West, Farmington. Hosted by the Roy-based ShowOffe Events And Boutiques, the event will feature bounce houses for kids, face painting, a magic show, a Twinkie eating contest, a costume contest, a kids costume parade, pumpkin carving, a trunk-or-treat, and more than 60 vendors. Lacy Havea, owner of ShowOffe Events, said a lack of family-oriented activities around Halloween inspired her to start the festival. “I have five kids of my own and around Halloween time, everything is scary,” she said. “It’s hard to find things that are suited for the little ones and that have a family atmosphere, so that’s why we put this event together.” Havea said the festival will also feature a special appearance from Scales And Tails Utah. In appreciation of all things creepy and crawly, the company will be bringing spiders, scorpions, roaches, lizards, snakes and a tortoise, for children to learn about. Havea said much of the event is geared toward children, adults should find plenty to occupy their time as well. The vendors scheduled for attendance will feature holiday shopping items that range from custom made jewelry, skin products, and clothing , to gourmet ice cream, yogurt and waffles. “There’s going to be something for everyone,” Havea said. Havea also said the festival is also a great opportunity for kids and adults to get a little more mileage out of their Halloween costumes, “You spend all this money on costumes and you only wear it once and then it goes into the closet for the rest of the year,” she said. “Here’s another place where you can show off your costume.” To register for contests and find out more about the event, visit www.showoffe.com/pumpkin-palooza.html.
